Leatherworking in WoW Forever: skill, sales and perks

Leatherworking guide for WoW Forever: cheapest 1-300 path, which leather gear sells in launch week, and how Forever perks affect the craft.

By the WoW Forever Talents team · Updated 2026-11-06

Leatherworking feeds two of the biggest crowds in WoW Forever: every Rogue, Druid, Hunter and Shaman needs leather, and every fresh 60 wants an upgrade from quest greens. With Skinning beside it, the craft pays for itself while you level. This is the launch-week playbook.

What Leatherworking makes

Armor from leather and mail, plus armor kits that any class can use. The Forever rework adds profession perks alongside the Classic recipe list, and the armor kit line is where the craft earns its keep early: kits sell to melee, ranged and tanks alike. Deviate Scale and Barbaric kit-adjacent items have their usual mid-level sweet spots.

Cheapest route to 300

Skin everything you kill and the gold cost barely exists.

  1. 1-45: Light Leather into Light Armor Kits. The kits sell, so craft to demand, not to the cap.
  2. 45-100: Cured Light Hides and Dark Leather items.
  3. 100-155: Hillman's Shoulders and Dark Armor Kits.
  4. 155-205: Heavy Armor Kits, then Wild Leather shoulders and vests.
  5. 205-260: Thick Armor Kits and Runic Leather gear.
  6. 260-300: Rugged Armor Kits and Devilsaur-tier recipes if you farm the leather.

Launch-week sales

Armor kits first, always. Second, the level 40-50 leather and mail pieces, especially chest slots, because quest chains hand out weak chests in that band. Devilsaur set items become a license to print gold once 60s start farming Un'Goro, exactly as they did in Classic. If you play a Rogue or Feral Druid, the builds pages tell you which stats to stack, and that is what your customers will ask for too.

Perks worth knowing

Early observations from the launch build point to kit and cost perks as the main additions, with more expected as phases open. The recipe spine stays Classic-shaped, so knowledge from Classic carries over. Check the patch notes when a phase drops; profession changes arrive there first.

FAQ

Leatherworking or Skinning first? Both together. Skinning funds the leather, and separate-skill costs are not worth splitting on a fresh realm.

What sells best from Leatherworking at launch? Armor kits and level 40-50 chest pieces. Devilsaur items later, once the level-60 farming economy starts.

Which classes want Leatherworking? Rogue, Druid, Hunter and Shaman, either to self-equip or to sell into the largest armor market in the game.
